The Student Subsection of the Education Section of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) is seeking applicants for the 2014 Student Subsection of the Education Section of the AFS Undergraduate Travel Award. The Undergraduate Travel Award is funded by the Education Section and is designed to introduce undergraduate students to AFS at the Parent Society level and increase participation of undergraduate students in AFS.
Undergraduate Travel Awards will be awarded to support undergraduate student attendance at the 2014 Annual Meeting of AFS in Quebec City, Quebec, August 17-21, 2014. The award will help with costs such as registration and housing for the Annual Meeting and AFS membership. We will select four students to receive the award (US$500) which will be presented at the Student Subsection Business Meeting. Selection of awardees will be based on involvement in student and professional organizations and rationale for attending the meeting.
This award provides a great opportunity for undergraduate students to meet and network with peers and professionals within AFS, and to immerse themselves in aquatic science and research that is being conducted by society members. Recipients are expected to attend all student-related activities at the annual meeting, including the student colloquium and mentor event, Education Section and Student Subsection business meetings, and career fair. Recipients are required to write a short summary (1 page single spaced) describing their meeting experiences for inclusion in the Education Section newsletter.
Completed applications must be received no later than July 18, 2014. Applicants must be an undergraduate at the time of the Annual Meeting. Applicants who anticipate graduating prior to the Annual Meeting will not be considered.
